Redesigning the ground floor of this contemporary beach house for a young, active family included opening up and renovating the kitchen, updating the living and dining spaces as well as converting an unused room into a shower room and laundry area.
With the beachfront location, the laidback surfer vibe of the family’s hometown and the clients’ desire for a stylish and comfortable look, this contemporary family home takes its inspiration from the effortless luxury of Southern California with a modern boho chic look.
Soft white and sandy neutrals accented with aqua, coral and brass keep the look bright and airy, bringing the spirit of the beach in.
Focused on creating a functional space for entertaining and family living, the redesign completely rethought the connections between rooms to improve flow while more effectively separating the new shower room and laundry area from the living space.
Widening and relocating doorways along with installing glass doors created long sight lines through the property and out to the stunning sea views.
Natural oak with an invisible oil was used throughout the space on floors, cabinetry and millwork to evoke a sense of raw elegance in the space. Honed stone, raw brass, leather and linen continue the theme.
Vintage textiles in graphic tribal patterns add visual interest and youthful colour to the pale neutral backdrop.
In response to the demands of family life, materials were chosen for their ability to age gracefully and become more inviting with time.
